Configure Windows Vista
Follow these instructions to configure your computer to work seamlessly with your Remote Storage Backup Server.
WINDOWS VISTA (no netdrive, no 64-bit support)
Note: Microsoft did not include webdav support for Windows Vista. Thus Microsoft released the Rosebud hotfix which adds minimal support for mounting http-webdav directories. The Rosebud patch does not support 64. There is also a known error that requires users to right-click and select open to open mounted webdav directories. Microsoft intended to address these issues in Service Pack 1 for Vista.
- Download Microsoft Software Update for Web Folders from the following url:
http://www.cari.net/downloads/webdav-support.exe - Install the update - default settings will suffice. At the end of the installation, you should restart your computer.
- After restarting, go to My Computer. Click on the Map network drive button in the upper right hand corner. (hint: press windows + e to bring up a My Computer window)
- Once in the Map Network Drive panel, click on Connect to a Web site at the bottom of the panel.
- Select Next at the initial prompt, then select Choose a custom network location when asked where you want to create your network place.
- In the Internet or network address: field, enter http:// followed by the IP address of your backup server and the directory. Both the IP address and directory are available through the iBizPanel.
- You will be prompted for a username and password. Check Save this password if you would like Windows to remember your password for future access. Both your username and password are available through the iBizPanel.
- You will be prompted to give your remote directory a name. Enter a name into the Enter the name for this Network Place: field. Press enter and it will create a new Network Place for you.
- Your remote directory will then be mounted and viewable in the My Computer panel. You will have full read/write access over your backup directory. Simply copy/paste or drag/drop to move data into your backup directory.
If you are having issues with opening folders within your mounted directory, please follow these steps:
- Right-click on the folder you wish to open and select Open.
This should solve any issues with open directories. Please remember that this should be resolved by Microsoft in Service Pack 1 for Vista. Once a more optimal solution is found, we will update this tutorial.
