Configure Windows XP Pro

Follow these instructions to configure your computer to work seamlessly with your Remote Storage Backup Server.

WINDOWS XP PRO with NetDrive

  1. Novell NetDrive compatibility is known to be intermittent on Windows XP; it works on a case-by-case basis. Configuring NetDrive on Windows XP has identical steps as Windows 98 and 2000.
  2. WebDrive 8 is a nearly identical pay version of NetDrive. It works seamlessly with the newer Microsoft operating systems. A trial version can be found at: http://webdrive.com/download/index.html

WINDOWS xp (My Network Places)

  1. Go to My Computer. Click on the Address bar and choose . (hint: press windows + e to bring up a My Computer window)

  2. Once in the My Network Places panel, click on Add Network Place.

  3. Select Next at the initial prompt, then select Choose another network location when asked where you want to create your network place.

  4. In the Internet or network address: field, enter http:// followed by the IP address of your backup server and the directory. Remember to a # following the directory name; this step is only relevant to Windows XP. Both the IP address and directory are available through the iBizPanel.

  5. You will be prompted for a username and password. Check Save this password if you would like Windows to remember your password for future access. Both your username and password are available through the iBizPanel.

  6. You will be prompted to give your remote directory a name. Enter a name into the Enter the name for this Network Place: field. Press enter and it will create a new Network Place for you.

  7. Your remote directory will then be mounted and viewable in the My Network Places panel. You will have full read/write access over your backup directory. Simply copy/paste or drag/drop to move data into your backup directory.
