Scheduled Windows Backups

Backing up your data with WINDOWS XP PRO / SERVER 2003

  1. Go to Start| All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Backup.
  2. The Backup or Restore Wizard will run. Select Always start in wizard mode and click Next.
  3. Choose Back up files and settings and click Next.
  4. You will be prompted as to what you would like to have backed up. Choose either All information on this computer or Let me choose what to back up depending on your needs. (If you chose the second option, please skip to step 7).
  5. Check the directories that you would like to be backed up and click Next.
  6. You will now be prompted to select a destination and name for your backup. Click on Browse.

    If you used Windows to mount your remote backup server...

    • Go to far right of the Save As window.
    • Click on My Network Places.
    • Select your mounted backup directory and chose a destination for your backup.
    • When completed, click Save.

    If you used NetDrive to mount your remote backup server...

    • Go to far right of the Save As window.
    • Click on My Computer.
    • Selected you mounted backup directory and choose a destination for your backup.
    • When completed, click Save.

  7. In the Type a name for this backup: field, give your backup a name. Click Next.
  8. Select Advanced to configure automatic backups otherwise click Finish to complete this one time backup.

If you chose Advanced...

  1. Select the type of backup which best fits your scenario (there are descriptions of each type below the pull-down menu). Click Next.
  2. If time is not an absolute necessity, choose to Verify data after backup. Click Next.
  3. You will now be given two options: the first will allow multiple backups in the same location, the second will erase previous backups). Click Next.
  4. Configure when you would like your backups to take place and click Next.
  5. Click Finish to complete the setup of your backup.
