🕒 Reading Time: 3 minutes Improved Server Core in 2012  Server Core provides a minimal installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 that supports installing only certain server roles. Here in Microsoft Windows Server 2012, we can easily make a transition between Full Server and Server Core without re-installing the operating system. Greater stability, simplified management, reduced maintenance, reduced memory and disk requirements, and reduced attack surface are other benefits of a Server Core installation. Improved Server Manager Console  Server Manager helps us in managing multiple local and remote Windows-based servers without requiring physical access to servers or the need to enable Remote Desktop protocol (RDP) connections to each server. Servers can be grouped together and can be managed easily as per their application groups, such as DNS or Active Directory (AD). We can install roles and features, remote management settings, and even run Best Practices Analyzer (BPA)   sm console   IPAM  IP Address Management is a new built-in framework for discovering, monitoring, auditing, and managing the IP address space used on your network. This is used for thee administration and monitoring of servers running Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS). Automatic IP address infrastructure discovery includes discovery of domain controllers, DHCP servers, and DNS servers in the domains we choose. Other features of IPAM include; custom IP address space display, reporting, and management; audit of server configuration; changes and tracking of IP address usage; and automated service availability and monitoring for Microsoft DHCP and DNS servers across the forest. Resilient file system (ReFS) A new file system was born! Resilient File System (ReFS) is a new local file system, which maximizes data availability to prevent data loss and downtime. Data integrity is a key feature of this file system, ensuring critical data is protected from errors and available all the time. The architecture of this file system is capable to handle constantly growing data sets and dynamic workloads. Integrity, Availability, Scalability, App Compatibility, and Proactive Error Identification are key features of ReFS. Improved Active Directory Windows New streamlined domain controller promotion wizard that is integrated with Server Manager allows for the remote install AD DS on a target server. From Server manger, we can deploy replica virtual domain controllers, promote DCs and ADCs through cloning. In Windows 2012 deleted objects can now be recovered within the graphical user interface using Active Directory Recycle Bin User Interface. Platform changes were made around scalability, throttling, and security which include AD DS Claims in AD FS, Relative ID (RID) Improvements, Deferred Index Creation, Kerberos Enhancements. Improved Hyper V In the latest version of Hyper-V , there are significant improvements over previous versions. Servers running Hyper V can now support a maximum of 320 Logical processors, 1024 Running virtual machines per server, 2048 Virtual processors per server and 4 TB of memory. There are no limits imposed by Hyper-V on Virtual storage area networks (SANs), Physical network adapters, Network adapter teams and Virtual switches. Maximums that apply to highly available servers running Hyper-V are 64 Nodes per cluster and 8,000 virtual machines per cluster. Each Virtual machine can now support a maximum of 64 virtual processors, memory of 1TB, 64 TB supported by the VHDX format , 4 Virtual IDE disks, 4, Virtual SCSI controllers, 256 Virtual SCSI disks , 4 Virtual Fibre Channel adapters, 50 Snapshots , 12 Virtual network adapters . More built-in Hyper-V cmdlets in Poweshell, Single Root I/O Virtualization SR-IOV, improved storage migration, Storage on SMB 3.0 file shares, Virtual Fibre Channel are some other features. Deploying replica virtual domain controllers, additional virtual domain controllers, promoting can be performed from server manager itself through cloning. IIS 8.0  In IIS 8.0 Centralized SSL Certificate Support, Dynamic IP Address Restrictions, FTP Logon Attempt Restrictions, WebSocket Protocol Support, Multicore Scaling on NUMA, Server Name Indication (SNI): SSL Scalability are new features. Compatibility of ASP.NET 3.5 and ASP.NET 4.5 and built Application Initialization, CPU throttling with additional throttling options are some other notable features of IIS 8.0. Scalable Platform For Virtualization Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition supports up to 64 sockets and up to 320 logical processors with Hyper-V Enabled. Windows Server 2012 also supports maximum 4 TB of memory. Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition supports up to 64 sockets and up to 640 logical processors without Hyper-V Enabled. New Task Manager New task manager design was made for effective graphs with more extensive tracking of processes, counters and performance. Task manager also uses colors to indicate heavier utilization in this version. Contact CARI.net to find out how you can upgrade to Windows Server 2012 https://cari.net/about-us/contact-us.html
